News story by grad student Anh Diep about Professor Michele Nishiguchi’s microbial studies of squid

At UC Merced, Nish and her team research the dynamic relationships between the Bobtail squid and Vibrio bacteria. There are approximately 20 labs nationally that use this species/host model but only Nish’s lab is investigating all the different species of Vibrio and their coevolution with their squid hosts across various locations. Dr. Nishiguchi receives M. Patricia Morse Award

Dr. Nishiguchi was named this year’s recipient of the M. Patricia Morse Award for Excellence and Innovation in Science Education. She will be honored at the SICB annual meeting in Phoenix, Jan 3-8, 2022. Visit website
